The Education Assistant will work under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher and the direction of the School Principal.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in program delivery and collaborate with the Special Education and Classroom Teacher to integrate individual student education plans.
- Maintain a daily log of student progress and keep positive contact with parents.
- Contribute to the diagnostic evaluation process.
- Participate in school activities and ongoing professional development.
- Work with assigned students to develop social skills, create timetables, and assist with daily physical functions.
- Provide one-on-one assistance to students with physical disabilities.
- Implement speech and language programs, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, behavior modification, and life skills programs as needed.
- Assist with overall Special Education needs as required.
Qualifications:
- Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Early Childhood Education diploma, Native Classroom Assistant Program certificate, Education Support Worker diploma, or willingness to pursue one.
- Knowledge of discipline and behavior theories.
- Strong interest and competency in supporting children with special needs.
- Experience in childcare settings is an asset.
- Experience with self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in classrooms is an asset.
- Experience working with Anishinabek learners and in culturally diverse communities is an asset.
- Experience with restorative justice practices in classrooms is an asset.
- Experience working with neuro-diverse students is an asset.
- Fluency in the Anishinaabe language and knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and heritage are assets.
- Good health and physical ability to perform tasks involving lifting over 30 lbs.
