Job description

The Education Assistant will work under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher and the direction of the School Principal.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in program delivery and collaborate with the Special Education and Classroom Teacher to integrate individual student education plans.
  2. Maintain a daily log of student progress and keep positive contact with parents.
  3. Contribute to the diagnostic evaluation process.
  4. Participate in school activities and ongoing professional development.
  5. Work with assigned students to develop social skills, create timetables, and assist with daily physical functions.
  6. Provide one-on-one assistance to students with physical disabilities.
  7. Implement speech and language programs, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, behavior modification, and life skills programs as needed.
  8. Assist with overall Special Education needs as required.
Qualifications:
  1. Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Early Childhood Education diploma, Native Classroom Assistant Program certificate, Education Support Worker diploma, or willingness to pursue one.
  2. Knowledge of discipline and behavior theories.
  3. Strong interest and competency in supporting children with special needs.
  4. Experience in childcare settings is an asset.
  5. Experience with self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in classrooms is an asset.
  6. Experience working with Anishinabek learners and in culturally diverse communities is an asset.
  7. Experience with restorative justice practices in classrooms is an asset.
  8. Experience working with neuro-diverse students is an asset.
  9. Fluency in the Anishinaabe language and knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and heritage are assets.
  10. Good health and physical ability to perform tasks involving lifting over 30 lbs.
  11. Provide a cover letter, resume, and three work-related references.
  12. Provide a current vulnerable/criminal reference check upon employment offer.
