POSITION SUMMARY

As the Education Assistant, this position is responsible for supporting student learning at ʔaq̓amnik̓ School by assisting with the facilitation of learning activities and ensuring a safe environment for the students. Relationship-building with students, colleagues, and Community is prioritized. This position works primarily one-to-one to provide support to a child within the school. This position works closely with the Student Services Teacher to create and review individual learning plans that include successful and inclusive support strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Collaborate effectively with the school team and partnering agencies to meet annual workplan objectives and contribute to a positive school culture.
  2. Collaborate with family members, teaching staff, and outside agencies to help students reach learning goals.
  3. Assist students as they transition at the beginning/end of the day, between classes, and during breaks (helping them with their shoes, jackets, etc.) and ensure students get on the bus.
  4. Plan and share implementation of the afterschool and summer program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate holds Education Assistant Certification and/or completion of Human Services education or training and/or completion of post-secondary in relevant field such as social services, recreation, etc. or an acceptable combination of relevant education and experience. Previous experience supporting an Indigenous Community would be an asset. Valid BC driver’s license is required as well as a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check.
