Job description

Position Overview:

St. George’s School is seeking an extraordinary, high-energy, and experienced Education Assistant to join the Resource team at the Junior School. In this role, you will be part of a collaborative teaching team supporting the positive growth, learning, and overall development of our Junior School students. Fulfill your vision as an Education Assistant by joining our dynamic school community with motivated students, inspirational colleagues, and supportive parents, complete with abundant resources and enriching professional development opportunities.

The ideal candidate brings a brilliant blend of academic support, social-emotional regulation expertise, and exceptional emotional intelligence to the Junior School team. With 1 to 3 years of experience navigating a range of learning needs (such as ADHD, ASD, OCD, sensory/regulation needs, and hearing needs), you are deeply adept at translating Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavioral Support Plans (BSPs) into practical, everyday classroom successes. You bring a deep awareness of the unique learning styles and developmental needs of young boys, balancing early literacy and numeracy support with an inquiry-based, engaging approach. A natural collaborator, you work seamlessly with classroom teachers and the Student Services team while maintaining meticulous documentation of student progress. Enthusiastic, adaptable, and deeply committed, you don't just work in a classroom, you actively immerse yourself in the vibrant, diverse life of the whole school community. You embody St. George’s School core values of empathy, integrity, humility, respect, responsibility, and resilience.

This is a part-time position (28 hours per week) aligned with the school calendar. We value work-life integration and offer flexible scheduling across the week, so we can work together to build a weekly structure that fits your routine while meeting team needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborative Support & Strategy: Partner in close collaboration with classroom teachers and Student Services members to organize enriching programs and tailor strategies in response to individual student needs.
  • Direct Student Support: Provide targeted support to individual learners and small groups needing additional guidance to navigate the school day, including academic, social-emotional, sensory regulation, and executive functioning support.
  • IEP & BSP Implementation: Assist individual students as outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Behavioral Support Plan (BSP), following guidance from classroom teachers and Learning Resource teachers.
  • Student Progress & Behavior Documentation: Maintain clear, detailed, and objective documentation of student progress and behavior to help identify triggers, behavioral patterns, and effective interventions.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in regular team meetings with educators and specialists to review student progress, align on support strategies, and share insights.
  • Inquiry-Based Learning: Support classroom teachers in creating and maintaining an active, inquiry-based learning environment that fosters curiosity and independence.
  • Supervision & Transitions: Supervise students during daily transitions, lunch hours, and outdoor play to ensure a safe, structured, and positive environment.
  • Community Engagement: Assist with and support school events and extra-curricular activities, actively contributing to the life of the school community.
Qualifications:
  • Education Assistant Certificate/Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1 - 3 years previous experience working with young students in an educational setting.
  • Experience supporting a range of learning needs informed by research and best practice in an inclusive classroom setting (e.g. ADHD, ASD, OCD, sensory and regulation needs).
  • Experience documenting student behavior and progress.
  • Experience supporting early literacy and numeracy development.
  • Strongly committed to student learning and success; being able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.
  • Awareness of the learning styles of young boys.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible, highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong time management and executive functioning skills.
  • Energy, commitment, and readiness to participate in the diverse life of the school community.
  • Dynamic and energetic individual who wishes to work in a highly focused environment with students keen to succeed.
  • Superior EQ skills in self-awareness, self-management, social agility, impact and influence.
