Accountability Objective

Are you a dynamic and creative individual who has a passion for working with seniors and leading engaging programs for our residents? Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager, our Life Enrichment Assistants facilitate, plan, and organize programs to enhance the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of wellness for our residents. This role is critical in creating resident-centric environments where our residents are inspired to experience fulfillment — whatever that means to them.

Background/Qualification
  • Minimum of grade 12 education required.
  • Prior experience in recreation programming for a senior population is preferred.
  • Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Recreation, Physical Education, and/or Gerontology is considered an asset.
  • Class 5 operator’s license, clean driving record, and 2 years passenger driving experience are preferred (only when there is not a bus driver position as well).
  • Certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR required.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership skills.
  • Must have a valid alcohol serving certification and CanFitPro certification preferred.
  • Proven computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite with adaptability to handle database programs.
  • Dementia experience/knowledge is considered an asset.
  • A resident-oriented individual whose values align with those of the residence.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated multi-tasking skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in and adhere to continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager, plan, direct, and evaluate activities related to residents' physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual needs.
  • Communicate activities of the department to residents, staff, families, and the community to encourage participation, ensuring residents' needs are met. Complete and distribute monthly activity calendars, surveys, invitations, etc., in a timely manner.
  • Lead and promote resident awareness and participation in leisure, social, and recreation programs tailored to their needs.
  • Maintain appropriate department records including attendance, assessments, and evaluations of programs.
  • Maintain a positive image of the residence through ongoing communication with the community, media, families, staff, and volunteers, fulfilling each resident’s leisure needs.
  • Assist in supervising volunteers and student placements.
  • Participate in the annual CanFitPro Exercise program to deliver suitable exercise classes for seniors.
  • Follow department policies and procedures regarding program quality, resident treatment, infection control, and safety.
  • Ensure effective communication with co-workers, residents, and guests, using appropriate channels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Life Enrichment Manager or delegate.
  • Comply with all corporate policies and mandatory training requirements.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, participate in fire drills, and other safety programs.
