TheCape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

The CBVRCE invites applications for the position of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Consultant as we work together to create success for all students in our region. Qualifications
  1. Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (Education, Special Education, SLP, Psychology, etc.).
  2. Valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate.
  3. Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  4. Minimum of five (5) years experience as a High Needs Learning Center (Primary Responsibility) Learning Support Teacher or in a regional position that primarily services students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  5. Experience programming and supporting students with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Please provide examples in your application.
  6. Training and/or experience in the following:
    • TEACCH: Principles of Structured Teaching
    • STAR: Strategies for Teaching based on Autism Research
    • TTAP: TEACCH Transition Profile/TEACCH Transition Programming
    • PEERS Program: The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills and course for credit
    • Cape Breton Works
    • Low Arousal Approach: Three (3) day certification
    • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
    • Principles of Behavior and Positive Behavior Supports
  7. Demonstrated leadership and experience in planning and delivering professional learning.
  8. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (written, oral, electronic).
  9. Sound knowledge of inclusive education, IPPs, and evidence-based interventions for ASD.
