Job description

Location : National Office in Ottawa / Hybrid (residency or relocation required)

This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled strategic leader to join the Canadian Red Cross as its Chief Financial Officer, overseeing a broad portfolio spanning finance, investments, corporate services, and digital strategy. In this critical role, you will help strengthen the organization’s financial health and sustainability, while advancing the priorities of Vision 2030 - a bold commitment to humanitarian action, empowered people, and lasting impact.

The Canadian Red Cross is a leading not-for-profit organization that supports people and communities in Canada and around the world in times of need, helping them build lasting resilience. As part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, and with a legacy spanning over a century, the Red Cross plays a vital role in emergency response, health services, and international relief. Committed to accessibility, diversity, and inclusion, the organization was proudly recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers in 2024.

As Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Corporate Services, you will report to the President and CEO and serve as a key member of the executive, working closely with the Organizational Leadership Team, and with the Audit and Finance Committee and the Board. You will provide strategic direction and oversight of the organization’s financial operations, digital transformation, corporate services, and enterprise risk management. You will support the implementation of the 2030 strategy, lead annual reporting and forecasting processes, guide large-scale projects, and help ensure that the Red Cross’ financial, operational, and digital infrastructure is well aligned with its expanding and ambitious mission.

This is primarily a national, high-impact role requiring financial stewardship of a complex organization with a scale of operations exceeding $500 million. You will lead a team of 300 and oversee finance, controllership, investments, technology, supply chain, facilities, and corporate services. You will work in close partnership with internal stakeholders, including government and philanthropic partners, to support the Red Cross’ growth, resilience, and operational excellence.

As the ideal candidate, you are a respected, highly collaborative, and trusted executive with at least 15 years of senior leadership experience in large, complex service-based organizations. You bring a CPA or equivalent designation (MBA is an asset) and have led major projects and supported organizations and teams through change and transformation. You are known for fostering inclusive, collegial, high-performing environments and have a strong track record of cross-functional collaboration. You understand the demands of national and international operations and have a proven ability to drive innovation, optimize service delivery, and manage risk. Your experience with philanthropy, emergency management, and IT strategy would be highly desirable, as would your ability to communicate in French and English. Your eligibility to work in Canada is required.

To apply for this exciting opportunity, send your CV and cover letter to Michael Naufal and Alain Pescador at [emailprotected] . Please include “CRC CFO” in the subject line of your e-mail.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those under consideration for the role will be contacted.

The Canadian Red Cross is committed to building diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible working environments and welcomes those who would contribute to the further diversification of staff including, but not limited to, women, racialized persons, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity to apply.
