Qualifications

GFT - Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction and Building Group in Temiskaming, ON. This role follows an on-site work model.

What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Construction Inspector, you will play a pivotal role in managing transportation construction projects across Toronto, ON. This is an exciting opportunity for career growth, engaging in complex problem solving, process improvement, and leading small projects to ensure successful delivery. You will collaborate with peers, senior staff, and stakeholders to address challenges and foster professional development, preparing for leadership roles.

Responsibilities include:
  • Establishing a safety-first culture for all construction projects.
  • Inspecting work materials and methods to meet contract requirements safely and with quality.
  • Maintaining a daily inspection diary documenting construction activity, environmental events, and progress.
  • Issuing contract deficiency reports and following up on corrective actions.
  • Observing and reporting safety, security, and operational infractions.
  • Assisting in resolving construction issues and ensuring contract compliance.
  • Tracking change notices for as-constructed drawings.
  • Supporting project closeout activities, including certificates of substantial completion and as-builts.
  • Conducting inspections to verify compliance with contract documents.
  • Reviewing contractor work quality and reporting to clients.
  • Ensuring contract compliance with technical plans and specifications.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • OACETT Designation (C.E.T, C.Tech, A.Sc.T).
  • 3-5 years of experience in construction engineering, including field construction and contract administration in the Toronto, ON/GTA area.
  • Experience with Class 1 Railway and working within a right-of-way is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle in good condition.
Preferred Skills:
  • Supervisory experience on construction sites, especially in transit, commercial, and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Experience resolving claims and knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws pertaining to transit operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work outside normal hours as needed.
