We are excited to offer Educational Assistant positions under Jordan's Principle, starting August 28, 2024, through June 25, 2025.

Jordan's Principle ensures that all First Nations children living in Canada can access necessary products, services, and supports. Funding can assist with various health, social, and educational needs, including those specific to Two-Spirit, LGBTQQIA children and youth, and children with disabilities. Named after Jordan River Anderson from Norway House Cree Nation, this initiative aims to support equitable access to services.

The Educational Assistant supports students requiring targeted and specialized assistance to participate effectively in their learning community. Responsibilities include adapting academic tasks, implementing behavioral strategies, attending to physical and medical needs, and monitoring student progress.

Under the guidance of teachers, Educational Assistants work primarily with identified students. The role requires building trust and rapport quickly with students and staff, collaborating within the school community, and adjusting strategies to maximize student success. Assistants may work with students with behavioral issues, complex disabilities, or developmental delays and may be assigned additional duties as needed.

Work Schedule : 29.50 hours/week, Monday to Friday. The calendar includes non-instructional days off.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support students with behavioral challenges, disabilities, delays, or medical needs.
  • Implement individualized programs and Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  • Ensure student safety, support social and emotional development, and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Participate in training such as Supporting Individuals with Valued Attachments (SIVA), which is an asset.

Qualifications :

  • Proof of Grade 12 or GED; for international education, an ECA or IQAS assessment confirming equivalency.
  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in relevant fields (e.g., Educational Assistant, Child & Youth Care).
  • Experience with students with exceptionalities, behavioral difficulties, or related areas.
  • Willingness to provide personal care, participate in community activities, and support students with diverse needs.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices, resiliency, self-regulation, and conflict resolution is an asset.

Locations : Various elementary, middle, and high schools.
