About The Role
This exciting opportunity is based in the charming town of St. Thomas, Ontario, and requires in-person attendance.
This role is within the Operations department and may require travel up to 90 days per year for trainings and workshops domestically or internationally during the first year of employment.
The Building Construction Lead will oversee the development of the greenfield construction of a large-scale manufacturing plant in Ontario, Canada. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing building construction in industrial or manufacturing settings. This role demands a leader with strong technical expertise who can successfully deliver the infrastructure scope while ensuring the construction schedule, budget, and project integrity, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, environmental compliance, and sustainability. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, and implementing changes within the project, ensuring adherence to relevant standards, and maintaining clear communication among stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the building construction scope for the project, including civil, structural, MEP, and equipment installations.
- Develop, implement, and manage detailed construction work plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations for the full project lifecycle, ensuring work progresses according to the overall project timeline and goals.
- Coordinate with project managers, design teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure all construction works are completed on time and within the defined budget.
- Collaborate with design consultants, architects, and engineers to create optimized, sustainable designs that meet operational and regulatory needs.
- Ensure that designs are constructible, cost-effective, and sustainable, considering long-term plant operations and environmental impact.
- Act as the primary liaison between the construction team, project leadership, contractors, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate construction activities with other project disciplines to ensure seamless integration of systems.
- Regularly report on progress, challenges, and milestones to senior management, addressing issues promptly.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure adherence to design and specifications, resolving discrepancies or issues.
- Identify and assess potential risks related to civil and infrastructure works, including site challenges, geotechnical considerations, and regulatory hurdles.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to prevent delays, cost overruns, or disruptions.
- Address technical, logistical, or design challenges during construction to minimize disruptions.
- Promote a collaborative, safe, and productive work environment aligned with project objectives and safety protocols.
- Serve as the central point of contact for all civil and infrastructure issues, ensuring transparency and alignment.
What You Bring To The Team
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years managing construction of large-scale industrial or manufacturing projects, with strong knowledge of construction regulations and standards.
- Proven leadership skills managing complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and coordination.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Proficiency in working safely on active construction sites, following Health & Safety protocols.
- High team orientation and social competence.
- Detail-oriented with diligent project component oversight.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Primarily based at the construction project office, with some time spent in coordination and planning.
- Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) is preferred.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards for large construction projects is an asset.
- Experience with Oracle ACONEX and Primavera is an asset.
