Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District is seeking an Academic Specialist to support students with academic needs. The role involves assessing reading abilities, collaborating with professional learning communities, and implementing academic plans. This position requires a bachelor's degree and offers a full benefits package, starting in August 2025.

Academic Specialist Overview
The Academic Specialist provides targeted reading and math supports to scholars with academic needs who do not qualify for formal academic strategies classes. This role involves assessing students' reading abilities, collaborating with the English Language Arts (ELA) Transition focused professional learning communities. Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), supporting academic needs related to trade classes, transition classes or jobs, and contributing to the school's Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives. The specialist will also serve on the Response to Intervention (RTI) team, support the development and implementation of academic plans through the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model, and lead the implementation of the READ Act while providing ongoing professional development.
Nature of Work
Incumbents are responsible for teaching students in assigned disciplines in classrooms, small groups, or at home; adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests; developing individual educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, or social development; establishing and enforcing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students; administering tests to help determine students' developmental levels, needs, or potential; and conferring with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, or administrators to resolve students' behavioral or academic problems.

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and license or able to obtain a license from the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) in Autism Spectrum Disorders (K-12), Emotional Behavior Disorders (K-12), or Developmental Disabilities (K-12).

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
