Job description

Design engineering firm is seeking an Associate Director for their Mechanical team in Vancouver, BC and Toronto, ON offices. Salary range is $110,000 - $130,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.

Responsibilities of Associate Director:
  • Prepares, or assists Principal-in-charge with, the development of all system engineering concepts (e.g. design brief) and concept report. Reviews and manages the design in terms of construction budgets.
  • Performs, or arranges for, reviews of existing installation and interprets/manages the impact on the project.
  • Prepares all calculations and selects all equipment. May assign tasks to designer and CAD Technician where appropriate.
  • Fully understands standards relevant for the project and is able to communicate all requirements to the internal project team, external project team, owner, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Ensures proper coordination of document with the internal and external project team (architect, interior designer, and other disciplines).
  • Fully understands (construction) project procurement methodologies and is able to recommend or apply such method for the project.
  • Responsible for reviewing all deliverables for the project whether reports, calculations, drawings, or specifications. Reviews for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development and as defined by internal total quality management.
  • Promotes and enforces company standards relating to project administration, documentation and processes such as total quality management.
  • Develops and/or improves processes and procedures for Project Management to improve efficiency.
  • Leads the Field Representative teams and delegates site activities to Project Managers when needed.
  • Prepares all change notices or reviews change notices issued by contract administration team.
  • Responsible for ensuring tasks are completed both accurately and with the assigned hours/fee.
  • Responds to both technical and financial queries related to the project.
  • Supports the process of accounts receivable.
  • Prepares and continually monitors a schedule of tasks required to complete the project including hours to perform tasks and critical data required for performance.
  • Organizes and attends meetings including client meetings.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to increase client satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
  • Works with the Business Development and Proposals group to respond to proposals. Actively writes proposal responses (RFP).
  • Leads and/or assists in human resources related activities including recruitment and selection, employee development, performance appraisals and employee relations.

Qualifications of Associate Director:
  • Associate Director possess 8 or more years of project engineering experience in the field of mechanical building services, specifically including tenant experience.
  • ICI and healthcare project experience, a huge asset.
  • Possess P.Eng or C.E.T. designation.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Possess sound communication skills as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Demonstrate experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
  • Knowledgeable about the provincial mechanical building codes.
  • LEED certification / Experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver professional presentations and chair meetings with clients and at industry events.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop lasting relationships with clients that foster strong client ties.
  • Willingness to work over and above regular business hours to deliver projects and develop relationships with clients.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Must have vehicle and valid driver’s license for the province of British Columbia.
