Qualifications

Detailed Overview

Operates, maintains, repairs, and modifies elements, components, and appliances associated with the steam distribution, steam condensate, hot water heating, heating ventilation and air conditioning, chilled water, medical air/vacuum, and instrumentation air compressors, as well as mechanical power generation systems at a 3rd Class Power Engineer's level, in accordance with regulatory codes, Worksafe BC regulations, and hospital policies.

Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, diesel generators, and auxiliary equipment in the Energy Centre, adhering to the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  2. Monitor and operate control systems, respond to warnings and alarms, and record operating data.
  3. Maintain HVAC systems, perform preventive maintenance, and repair HVAC equipment and components.
  4. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on steam and hot water distribution systems.
  5. Operate and maintain water systems, including monitoring and adjusting control parameters.
  6. Maintain and repair appliances such as washers, sterilizers, and other equipment.
  7. Operate and maintain medical air compressors, vacuum pumps, and related systems.
  8. Operate and repair power generator engine sets and associated equipment.
  9. Identify malfunctions and perform electrical and mechanical repairs on various equipment.
  10. Replace and repair plumbing fixtures and respond to emergency repairs.
  11. Respond to service and emergency calls, communicate resolutions, and escalate issues as needed.
  12. Interpret mechanical drawings, perform modifications, and liaise with contractors.
  13. Maintain inventory of supplies and tools.
  14. Respond to site emergencies and cooperate with other departments.
  15. Maintain safety and cleanliness standards, and perform snow removal as needed.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience

Certificate of competency as a 3rd Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C., with four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Physical ability to perform duties.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
