Senior Subsea Engineer

St. John’s, NL

Contract position, 12 months with possible extension

Introduction

The Senior Subsea Engineer (Wellheads/Xmas Trees/Flowbase/Manifold) will be a key member of the wells team supporting subsea scopes related to drilling, completions, interventions, and workovers. This role focuses on engineering, procurement, maintenance, equipment readiness, and offshore installation activities for wellheads and Xmas Trees, including related interfaces. The engineer will also coordinate inspection and maintenance of owned subsea equipment and tooling, ensuring all activities align with established policies, standards, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support concept evaluations and contribute to the basis of design for current and potential drill center expansions.
  • Provide technical input through evaluations and reporting for key project decision points.
  • Review subsea design reports, technical drawings, and documentation.
  • Maintain project timelines and deliver regular progress updates.
  • Coordinate infield subsea activities ahead of MODU campaigns.
  • Lead technical condition assessments of subsea tooling and recommend repair or replacement.
  • Witness teardown, inspection, and rebuild activities at vendor facilities.
  • Oversee and participate in system integration testing (SIT) of subsea equipment and tooling.
  • Advise on equipment spares and inventory planning.
  • Liaise with certification authorities as required.
  • Support procurement and contracting efforts, including onboarding of new vendors.
  • Integrate life-of-field considerations in well and completion design (operations, interventions, and abandonment).
  • Identify, communicate, and manage operational risks for both planned and unplanned activities.
  • Assist in contractor selection and develop equipment handling and operational procedures with OEMs.
  • Provide on-site supervision during key subsea activities when required.
  • Maintain effective communication with offshore subsea personnel and drilling teams.
  • Support safe and efficient management of change processes.
  • Capture and apply lessons learned across multiple programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Subsea, Petroleum, or related discipline).
  • 8–10+ years of subsea engineering experience, with a strong focus on wellheads, Xmas trees, and subsea infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of MODU operations, subsea tooling, and intervention techniques.
  • Proven experience managing equipment readiness and overseeing system integration testing.
  • Familiarity with offshore operational standards and classification requirements.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to coordinate across teams and vendors.
  • Commitment to high HSE standards and quality assurance.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
