Job Description

Position Overview:

Responsibilities:

  • Processing samples, including specimen receiving, processing, dispatch, and blood collection from adults, children, and infants, following MOH Guidelines.
  • Collecting urine samples.
  • Performing routine 12 & 15 Lead ECGs according to established procedures.

The successful candidate must contribute to a safe and healthy environment, complying with hospital codes of conduct and health and safety policies. They will use protective equipment, report hazards, and engage in ethical conduct, respecting diversity among patients and staff.

Requirements
  • Graduate of a recognized Laboratory Technician program with training in Blood Collection, Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, Histology, and ECG.
  • Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT/MLPAO) certification.
  • At least 1 year of hospital laboratory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of urinalysis and electrocardiography.
  • Understanding of laboratory safety procedures, chemical handling, and quality control.
  • Proficiency in keyboard use.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Alignment with SHN’s Code of Conduct and commitment to a positive, inclusive work environment.

Assets:

  • Experience with EPIC and Histopathology.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Ability to speak additional languages.
