The City of Port Coquitlam’s Recreation Department is committed to providing accessible and inclusive services, programs and opportunities for all members of our community. We are looking for an experienced professional for the role of Recreation Leader – Access & Inclusion. This position acts in a 1 to 1 role for children and youth ages 5 years to 14 years who could benefit from support.This is recreation work that involves instructing/facilitating programs and services, preparing individual program plans and promoting interest and encouraging participation in program activity. Duties are performed within established guidelines but independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the programs. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of instruction, services provided and conformance to established practices.

Applicants must be available July 2nd – August 29th Monday – Friday during camp hours

For applicants to be considered for this position, they need to meet the Canada Summer Job Grant requirements:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Need to be available for a minimum 30 hours/week


Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Instructs, facilitates and participates with the individual program delivery for a variety of recreation programs, and services within established standards and guidelines.
  • Prepares individual program plans for review by a supervisor for assigned recreation programs and services.
  • Provides referrals to community resources within established guidelines.
  • Represents the Department and the City in a positive, professional and customer friendly manner.
  • Sets up equipment necessary for assigned programs and service and stores equipment safely following the end of a program or service.
  • Maintain routine records, reports and enters program data.
  • Drafts promotional material for review and approval by a supervisor.
  • Provides direction and instruction to other members of the work unit and/or program contractors and provides assistance to others in the department.
  • Enforces rules and regulations and ensures required standards of behavior and safety in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 6 months full time equivalent experience working with Children 10 and under in a recreation or related setting
  • Minimum of 2 post secondary courses related to Childhood Development
  • BCRPA High Five Training
  • Food Safe
  • Standard First Aid
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
