ED Overview

As an integrated part of Brigham and Women's Emergency Department, staff at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital's Emergency Department provide compassionate and personalized care to every patient. Our team includes board-certified emergency physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and unit service techs with extensive emergency care experience.

Our 21-bed unit maintains staffing ratios of 4 to 1 for nursing staff. We stagger shifts throughout the day to cover peak times with adequate staffing. We care for patients of all ages, including pediatrics, working collaboratively to deliver optimal treatment. The Emergency Department operates 24/7, with diagnostic services like X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, and MRI available around the clock or most of the day.

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital is a designated Primary Stroke Center and is initiating a TeleStroke Program in collaboration with BWH and MGH.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BSN required.
  • Massachusetts Registered Nurse License required.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS must be obtained prior to the end of orientation; practice independently without ACLS is not permitted.
  • PALS preferred.
  • Newly licensed nurses must obtain ACLS and PALS within six months of employment.
  • ED experience strongly preferred.
  • Telemetry experience (2 years) preferred.
  • Adhere to all I.C.A.R.E. standards.
  • Evidence of basic analytic thinking necessary for patient care.
  • Strong observational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective in applying hospital standards, teamwork, communication, respect, and time management.
