Job description

HB Studios is a driving force in sports video games, proudly developing PGATOUR2K for PC and Consoles. We're looking for a talented Economy Designer to join our studio and shape the progression, rewards, and in-game economy that drives engagement and excitement throughout the lifecycle of our games.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply a deep understanding of all game progression loops, including the player motivations they support, how they interact, and how new features or changes impact the broader gameplay economy and player experience.
  • Take ownership of in-game economies, reward structures, and progression balance from concept through live operations—driving continuous improvement through data, intuition, and feedback, while working within established design frameworks.
  • Continuously analyze player behaviors, in-game metrics, and industry trends to evolve our in-game economies, ensuring a balanced and rewarding in-game economy aligned with player motivations.
  • Collaborate with the Design Lead and multidisciplinary teams to design, model, and implement engaging features focused on player acquisition, retention, monetization, and overall satisfaction.
  • Clearly communicate your design vision, effectively gather feedback, and iterate features through all stages of production, from pre-production through live-ops.
  • Actively participate in hands-on game design tasks including feature prototyping, content creation, scripting, data entry, tuning, and rigorous playtesting.
  • Proactively contribute to design discussions, offering constructive feedback to elevate the overall quality and player experience.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Contribute to our growing philosophy of game design and how we make games.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • 2–4+ years of professional game design experience, ideally including AAA or live-service games.
  • Demonstrable experience designing, implementing, and managing game economy and progression systems in shipped games.
  • Proven skill in economic modeling and analytics, consistently aligning your projections with live outcomes.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively and independently, solving complex design challenges.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with Unity and scripting is a strong asset.
  • Location / Relocation Requirements :

  • Position based in Nova Scotia
  • Willingness to relocate to Nova Scotia is preferred
  • Relocation support may be available for the right candidate
  • Nova Scotia offers access to nature, cultural experiences, and a balanced lifestyle
  • We believe the ideal candidate is passionate about crafting rewarding player experiences and deeply curious about what motivates and engages players. You have a strong ability to communicate complex economic concepts clearly and constructively, and you’re equally comfortable deep in the details or thinking at a system-wide level. You thrive in collaborative environments, value feedback, and take pride in building experiences that feel meaningful to players.

We encourage applicants with varied perspectives and backgrounds and believe they are the foundation to a strong team. If you're excited to help shape the future of PGATOUR2K as an Economy Designer at HB Studios, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your cover letter and resume!
