Job description

Unit Summary

The adult Medical Diagnostic Units at Hamilton Health Sciences include the MDUs at Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, McMaster University Medical Centre and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. These are all administered in the Diagnostic Services program with an unified management structure. Specially trained physicians, technicians and technologists provide a range of both In-Patient and Out-Patient diagnostic testing that focuses on Cardiac, Pulmonary, and Neurological issues. The specific diagnostic tests available are : Electrocardiography (ECG), Holter Monitoring, Stress Exercise Testing, Echocardiography (Echo), Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT). Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (MG), Evoked Potentials (EVP) and Peripheral Vascular Testing.

Position Summary

The Echocardiography Technologist performs Echocardiograms on both inpatients and outpatients. Duties include : performing M-mode, 2-D, Doppler and color flow echocardiograms in accordance with hospital procedure, including inserting IVs and performing Enhanced studies ; interpreting echocardiograms and documenting pathology; assisting physicians with trans esophageal echocardiograms; performing dobutamine stress echocardiography and recumbent bike stress echocardiography tests; writing preliminary reports for cardiologists interpreting echocardiograms; restocking and cleaning of workspace, providing patient care within scope and other duties as may be assigned.

Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday; days and evenings, Holidays and Weekends

Qualifications

1. Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)

2. Successful completion of an accredited Echocardiography program

3. Basic knowledge of ECG interpretation

4. Membership with ARDMS or Sonography Canada an asset

5. One year of relevant echocardiography experience

6. IV certification considered an asset

7. Additional relevant certification considered an asset

8. Current BCLS
