Base pay range
CA$85,000.00 / yr - CA$90,000.00 / yr
The Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist will oversee compensation, benefits, and payroll at a management level. These responsibilities will include overseeing all aspects of the company payroll & benefits area. The Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist will achieve these goals in a cost-effective manner while administering compensation, benefits, and payroll plans that meet the needs of employees. Integrity and the ability to provide value are crucial for this role. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Advise and assist in the implementation of ADP Work Force Now project.
- Advise and assist in the interpretation and administration of compensation, benefits, and payroll.
- Process payroll biweekly in all of Canada’s locations for over 1000 employees and growing.
- Process biweekly payroll for union employees in all of Canada’s locations.
- Assist in across-site validation and processing of Timecards.
- Process various leaves (CNESST, Workers Comp, Maternity / Paternity / Parental, LOA) in line with Government regulations.
- Register and terminate employees into benefits in all Canada’s locations.
- Oversee the classification and rating of occupations for compensation purposes.
- Ensure compliance with legislation such as the Pay Equity Act and Training records.
- Administer compensation and benefits programs that align with performance expectations.
- Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Develop and / or administer special projects in areas such as pay equity, benefit programs, and employee awards.
- Monitor assigned payroll activities and / or program components for the purpose of ensuring effective department functioning, coordinating activities, and ensuring compliance with established financial, legal and / or administrative requirements.
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of a variety of payroll-related documents (e.g. invoices for overpayments, retirement plan transfers, payroll register, stop payments, worker's compensation checks, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues; meeting compliance requirements, and providing audit references.
- Reconcile account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices and / or regulations.
- Research and audit to identify discrepancies in payroll information and / or documentation (e.g., timesheets, leave time, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
- Compile data from a wide variety of sources (e.g., timesheets / payroll, salary adjustments, tax deposits, etc.) for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with mandated requirements, and / or monitoring program components.
- Communicate with a variety of internal and external parties (city / provincial / federal agencies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate processing of payroll deductions / garnishments.
- Respond to written and verbal inquiries for the purpose of providing information and / or direction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of ADP Work Force Now payroll system – Must Have
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Worker Compensation systems in Canada, remittances, ROE, T4, final payment regulations, and payroll program applications.
- Ability to efficiently organize work activities to meet daily and weekly deadlines.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to make immediate decisions under pressure or tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization.
- A flexible team player with a proven ability to work successfully in a matrix reporting environment.
Education and Experience
- Advanced proficiency with ADP required, WFN proficient. Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP), Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP), or working towards it required.
- Minimum of 7+ years' working experience in payroll required.
- Experience in managing the processing of salaries, bonuses, shift premiums, and other forms of compensation.
- Knowledge of audits, income tax forms, health benefits programs, sick pay, retirement plans, etc.
- Experience managing multi-Canadian provincial payrolls, payroll systems, and processing Canadian payroll.
- Bilingual English and French is required.
