Job Description

Your responsibilities as a Lead Teacher

KIPP NC teachers are central to our mission of helping students develop knowledge, skills, and character strengths for success in education and beyond. Responsibilities include:

Expectations of Instruction Preparation & Delivery
  • Review, internalize, and facilitate KIPP NC adopted & scripted curriculum, including 9-12 Math & Science: KIPP NC Approved Materials
  • Practice lesson delivery to execute curriculum at a high level while following the pacing guide with fidelity
  • Create exemplar responses and documents to hold students accountable
  • Use assessment data (Interim Assessments, MAP, EOGs, EOCs, etc.) to inform instruction and adjust lessons to meet student needs
  • Embrace and incorporate feedback to pursue excellence
  • Maintain accurate gradebook, records, and data tracking systems
Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture
  • Embodies and maintains the school’s values, policies, and culture
  • Assumes personal responsibility for student achievement
  • Maintains a clean classroom with student work and appropriate decorations
  • Develops positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and staff through regular communication and participation in school events
  • Participates in daily school functions, including arrival, advisory, lunch duty, recess, and dismissal
Demonstrate a Growth Mindset
  • Collaborates with coaches to identify areas for professional development
  • Receives and acts on feedback from observations and walkthroughs
  • Attends practice clinics and professional development sessions
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Deep commitment to KIPP NC’s mission and belief in student potential
  • Passionate about improving outcomes for students from marginalized communities
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license or willingness to pursue certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Enthusiasm, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor
  • Ability to stand and monitor classrooms for 8+ hours and lift 50 lbs as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in Environmental Science or related science
  • Experience in high-performing charter schools or with students receiving free/reduced lunch
  • Success in raising achievement levels among marginalized students
  • Passing Praxis exams by September 2025
  • Fluency in Spanish

  • Hours: M, Th, F 7:30 am - 3:30 pm; Tu, W 7:30 am - 5 pm
