Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18 with 6 months experience teaching or camp.

Job Description

Enjoy your summer days outside teaching children about nature, history, and outdoor skills. Ernie Miller Nature Center staff operates 2 large camps, 1 in the park and 1 in Shawnee Mission Park. The Outdoor Discovery Camps are licensed KDHE school-age programs run by our award-winning Outdoor Education Team of full-time Park Naturalists.

This position leads children ages 6-12 in outdoor and indoor activities including games, stories, crafts, swimming, creek exploration, field trips, kayaking & canoeing, archery, bb guns, hiking, nature and wildlife lessons, etc. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Location: Ernie Miller Nature Park & Shawnee Mission Park Shelter # 12

Hourly Salary: $14.00

Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum age 18
  • 6 months cumulative experience teaching, camp, and/or environmental education with youth
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Some college preferred
  • Must be willing to obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate (training available)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass driving record check
  • Must be able to work all day outdoors, May 27 – August 1. M-F shift hours vary 7 am-5:30
  • Time scheduled will shift with camp staff absences
  • Must attend a paid camp training held May 19-23
