POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cook Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of preparation duties in a traditional institutional kitchen, following production schedules, standardized recipes, and safety policies to ensure quality and quantity food standards are met. The role promotes a culture of resident safety and injury prevention.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Food preparation and delivery
  2. Assist in preparing food items promptly according to schedules, recipes, and guidelines
  3. Support meal service activities including beverage service, plating, and dining room cleaning
  4. Prepare modified foods as directed for resident diet needs
  5. Assist with meal cart preparation, food and supply orders, and storage
  6. Participate in menu development and food evaluation
  7. Assist in audits and maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment
  8. Follow proper food handling and safety procedures, including temperature monitoring
  9. Label, date, and store food items appropriately
  10. Assist in monitoring food usage and waste, and record-keeping as needed
  11. Operate food service equipment safely and correctly
  12. Assist with opening and closing the kitchen per checklists
  13. Adhere to AgeCare policies and safety procedures
  14. Display a polite, service-oriented attitude towards residents and colleagues
  15. Attend all required training and meetings
  16. Perform all work with a focus on resident safety, reporting unsafe activities and educating staff on safety techniques
