Job description

SAIT’s Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner, and international projects. We create courses and programs for lifelong learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to upskilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We handle all background activities required to set up our products for student purchase and experience across various delivery options.

Our Individual Learner offerings through CEPS are scheduled at various times throughout the week to accommodate our diverse learner population, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Our learners are mature, focused, and seek challenging educational experiences.

The instructor's role is to professionally manage and engage students, ensuring they achieve learning objectives to their fullest potential. Instructors should utilize all available resources, methods, techniques, and strategies to support student success. Collaboration with colleagues to foster a pedagogically sound, technically supported, and innovative learning environment is expected.

Note: We are currently building our Adjunct Instructor talent pool for potential courses in our NDT programming during the 2025-2026 academic year. We will hire instructors based on demand, which is subject to change.

The Role
  1. Prepare and deliver engaging lessons, including lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, and lab activities as per course outlines.
  2. Assess student progress, maintain records for grading, professionalism, and attendance in both theory and lab classes.
  3. Manage the classroom or lab to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
  4. Show personal interest in learners and foster an optimal learning climate.
  5. Provide ongoing support, guidance, and advice to students.
  6. Review and update course content and links in the D2L shell to ensure relevance and currency.
  7. Attend all required SAIT training sessions.
  8. Contribute to subdivision initiatives and objectives.
  9. Follow all safety legislation, guidelines, and standards.
  10. Maintain industry sector contacts.
  11. Complete job shadowing and instructional skills or teaching foundation training within one year of start date, unless unavailable.
  12. Perform other duties as needed to meet SAIT and student needs.
Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of materials, science, and product technology.
  2. Certification in at least three methods from CGSB Level II or III, including Radiography, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, Ultrasonic Inspection.
  3. Minimum of 3 years, preferably 5 years, documented experience in NDT.
  4. Preference for candidates with CGSB RT Level II certification.
  5. CEDO certification is required.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a commitment to learner success.
  7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  8. Strong prioritization and time management skills.

Preferred:

  • Previous instructional experience.
  • Training in adult learning fundamentals.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems like Brightspace or Moodle.
  • Experience with videoconferencing tools such as MS Teams, WebX, Zoom, Skype.
  • Experience in curriculum development or instructional design.
