About Pragma

Pragma is supporting healthy and vibrant online communities by creating a backend game engine— a platform of services and tools that enable game studios to launch live-service games.

You'll be joining a passionate, remote-first team (PT time zone) that have scaled some of the largest games in the world such as League of Legends and Destiny 2 and at studios like Riot, Bungie, and EA, and scaled platforms at Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Unity. We are grateful to have partnered with top-tier investors including Greylock, Upfront Ventures and Insight Partners.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer to be a trusted technical advisor and solution architect for our clients. In this role, you will empower game studios to succeed by leveraging the Pragma Platform and extending its capabilities through custom development. Acting as an integral part of their development team, you will provide expert guidance, hands-on support, and tailored solutions, with a focus on backend systems and game client development.

If you’re looking to work with top game studios, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with clients: Develop strong relationships with game development teams, deeply understanding their technical challenges, project goals, and workflows.
  • Drive successful Pragma integrations: Guide clients through the technical implementation of the Pragma Platform, providing hands-on support, code examples, and best practices.
  • Design and develop custom solutions: Extend the functionality of the Pragma Platform by architecting and developing bespoke backend systems and, where necessary, frontend components specifically for the game client (e.g., UI, gameplay logic) to meet specific client needs.
  • Provide proactive solutions: Identify potential roadblocks and proactively offer solutions to optimize client's use of the Pragma Platform and their overall game development process.
  • Conduct technical workshops and training: Deliver customized training sessions to educate clients on the features and functionalities of the Pragma Platform and any custom solutions developed.
  • Champion client needs: Advocate for client needs within Pragma by gathering and sharing feedback, contributing to the product roadmap, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing: Document best practices, create technical resources, and contribute to internal knowledge bases to empower both clients and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Strong game development expertise: Proven experience in software development, with expertise in backend technologies (e.g., cloud platforms, databases, APIs) and a solid understanding of game client development (e.g., game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity, gameplay programming, UI development).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Exceptional interpersonal skills to build rapport and foster collaborative relationships.
  • Passion for problem-solving: Proactive and solution-oriented, with a passion for identifying and overcoming challenges. Ability to anticipate client needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Customer-centric approach: Genuine desire to understand and exceed client expectations by providing exceptional support and solutions.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and adjust to evolving client needs and project requirements.

  • A remote-first work environment with semi-annual in-person meetups
  • Competitive pay
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision coverage for primary policyholders; 80% employer-paid coverage for eligible dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Flexible vacation
  • Remote friendly perks such as snacks delivered monthly
  • Paid parental and family care leaves
