DNV Energy Systems is seeking a Power System Study Engineer in its Renewables & Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost-effective, and practical solutions to stakeholders in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The engineer should demonstrate vision, drive, and passion for growing our Power Systems Advisory business in North America, delivering technical insights, and providing excellent customer service.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform electrical System Impact Studies such as Steady State, Dynamic, and Transient Stability analyses using PSS / E.
  • Conduct Short Circuit studies in ASPEN.
  • Perform Voltage Ride Through (VRT) tests, dynamic model quality assessments, and benchmarking.
  • Engage in transmission planning and compliance assessments for the bulk electric power system in PSS / E.
  • Produce and review technical reports and presentations for clients.
  • Complete projects timely while maintaining quality and budget.
  • Develop or modify automation scripts to improve simulation efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay updated on NERC, ISO / RTO planning procedures, policies, and developments.
  • Contribute to research and innovation activities, developing new techniques and tools.
  • Build customer relationships and provide technical advisory support for generation and large load interconnections.

Location and Benefits

This role is based at our Toronto (ON) or Montreal (QB) office, with a hybrid schedule of three days per week on-site or at client locations. Other Canadian offices may also be considered.

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on electric power systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience in transmission planning, generation, or large load interconnection analyses, including NERC standards.
  • Hands-on experience with power-system tools like PSS / E.
  • Strong understanding of electric power systems and renewable energy.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Pre-employment background screening is conducted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ERCOT market planning and interconnection practices.
  • Experience with ASPEN, TARA, or similar analysis software.
  • Active PE License.
  • Graduate degree focusing on Electric Power Systems.
  • Working knowledge of automation scripting, such as Python.
  • Knowledge of other markets like PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE.
