Kuujjuaq Maternity-Ungava Tulattavik Health Center-Nunavik, Quebec
Our team is looking for part-time and full-time midwives to work for periods of 2 to 8 weeks, 2 to 8 times a year. We have urgent needs from the end of May to July 8th.
We are a team of Inuit and non-Inuit midwives dedicated to training more Inuit midwives. We work in a small hospital in a remote community (no ER, no anesthesia), where midwives provide all prenatal care and care during labor for low to medium risk pregnancies, with support from family doctors in emergencies or higher-risk cases. We also participate in medical evacuations (by plane) from smaller communities, mainly for preterm labor and birth. Our common language of work is English, but much of the charting is in French, and Inuktitut is the first language of most of the population.
Kuujjuaq is the largest community in Nunavik, Quebec, with about 3,000 residents. It is a beautiful town located at the border between the taiga and tundra, on the banks of the Koksoak River, 30 miles from Ungava Bay. The area features sandy beaches and numerous hiking opportunities. In winter, activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Access to the gym is paid for hospital employees.
