About the Role

The Principal Associate, Risk Management will be working within the First Line Risk Office. You will have the opportunity to apply risk management expertise to collaborate with first line partners across Capital One Canada to maintain and support an effective internal control suite. The Canada Risk Office is embarking on a journey to transform and elevate its control suite to enable the ongoing success of our business. You will serve as a change agent and act as the subject matter expert, providing guidance and advice on the implementation and design of control suites to First Line Control Owners. You will effectively partner with Second Line Program stakeholders (e.g. Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, ORM) and the broader First Line risk community across the enterprise. You will also be supporting our first line stakeholders on the governance and application of our Enterprise Control Standard methodology, requirements, and reporting on the state of our control inventory. You will identify opportunities for improvements, provide training and guidance and develop tools and reporting to support first line teams.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated risk professional and a strong relationship builder, with problem solving and excellent communication skills.

Your Responsibilities :

  • Drive ongoing adherence to the Enterprise Control Standard and support line of businesses by providing guidance and tools
  • Partner with business owners across Canada to develop and maintain strong control suites in adherence with the Enterprise Control Standard
  • Partner with Control Owners across the business to remediate Design and / or Operational Effectiveness gaps
  • Maintain oversight over the health and effectiveness of the Canada Control Suite
  • Leverage reporting and data to identify program enhancements, training & guidance improvements as well as process improvements
  • Actively participate in Enterprise risk community forums and proactively take and apply such learnings to the broader Canada Risk Office team
  • Support in the development and delivery of training, guidance and related services to drive Standard adherence across the Canada business
  • Support reporting and analysis of controls performance.
  • Collaborate effectively with 2nd Line functions and stakeholders (e.g. Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Business Risk Offices)
  • Maintain knowledge of Enterprise Standards and ensure Control Governance Processes are designed to and are delivering on those expectations
  • Support special projects and engagements

Basic Qualifications :

  • A solid understanding of risk management and governance principles and familiarity with the processes and controls that govern these activities (i.e., three lines of defense model and risk framework principles)
  • At least 3 years of experience in Enterprise Risk Management, Second Line Functions, governance, risk, and compliance practices (e.g. risk identification, controls management, assessment, and reporting)
  • Experience in preparing and writing business documents (i.e., presentations for leadership meetings or forums, briefing memos, and reports)
  • At least 1 year of experience in Financial industry
  • Comfortable working with Google Suite

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Familiarity of a credit card business, practices, and operations
  • Working knowledge of cloud data structure (snowflake)
  • Certified in or knowledge of COSO ERM framework
  • Experience working in an Agile workplace environment
  • Experience in basic coding and / or data visualization (e.g. SQL, Tableau)
  • Scripting experience in (Python, SQL) and the ability to understand test scripts for automated controls
  • Experience working with Automated / Hybrid controls
  • Experience in Controls Testing
  • Experience of using Lean & Six Sigma tools & methodology
