Clinical Educator – Women and Children’s Health – Full Time

Reporting and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Collaborative Practice with matrix reporting to the Manager of Women’s and Children’s Health, the Clinical Educator will develop and deliver program-based orientation and clinical education to ensure high-quality care in W&CH services. The role involves establishing standards, policies, procedures, and providing ongoing education, including approved Medical Directives.

Duties

  1. Collaborate with the inter-professional healthcare team to ensure consistent, interdisciplinary patient care.
  2. Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, standards, and procedures.
  3. Maintain current knowledge of best practices and implement improvements.
  4. Participate in quality improvement initiatives for patient safety and satisfaction.
  5. Provide education, resources, and coaching tailored to team needs.
  6. Plan, implement, and evaluate clinical orientation for new hires.
  7. Support mentorship and ongoing education for staff, including continuing education and certifications.
  8. Develop health teaching materials for patients and families.
  9. Maintain education records per hospital policies.
  10. Innovate by transforming current practices to digital workflows.
  11. Support educational needs across different areas as required.
  12. Collaborate on audit results to address educational needs and ensure standards are met.
  13. Participate in patient care alongside healthcare providers, using standards of nursing practice and the nursing process.
  14. Support patient and family health teaching.
  15. Assist in planning corrective actions from an educational perspective to ensure safety, complying with occupational health and safety standards.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years recent W&CH experience, including labour and delivery, postpartum, pediatrics, and NICU.
  • Experience in scrubbing and circulating in the OR with obstetrical patients.
  • At least 3 years of experience in clinical education for interdisciplinary staff.

Skills & Abilities

  • Critical thinking, organizational skills, and excellent presentation skills.
  • PALS and Fetal Health Surveillance certifications are assets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Meditech PCS, including specialty modules.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in W&CH patient care.
  • Commitment to continuing education, especially related to W&CH.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines from ORNAC, SOGC, and CPS.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to change.
