RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position Summary
The Proteomics and Molecular Analysis Platform is seeking an efficient, meticulous, detail-oriented, and self-motivated Research Technician with advanced wet lab skills to assist with proteomics sample preparation workflows for a temporary full-time position.
General Duties
Under The Supervision Of The Platform Manager The Incumbent
- Facilitates the platform’s sample preparation for proteomics fee-for-service workflows,
- Performs consistent and reproducible high-volume manual proteomics sample preparation, including SDS-electrophoresis, peptide extraction and purification, (TMT) labelling and enrichment,
- After appropriate training, performs automated proteomic sample preparation with Biomek i5 and EvoSep technology,
- Assists with day-to-day Platform operations,
- Participates in the planning and conceptualizing of research questions and methods,
- Documents and summarizes results as needed for new and ongoing projects,
- Coordinates instrument schedules and resources,
- Coordinates service requests with the Platform Manager and regularly consults with customers for their proteomics sample requirements and processing needs,
- Responds promptly to queries and requests for information,
- Conducts other related tasks as assigned by the Platform Manager.

Education / Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study: Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or equivalent combination of training and experience
Other education considered an asset for this position: Bachelor’s degree is preferred
Work Experience: three (3) years of related research with hands-on bench work experience
Required Skills
- Extensive experience and expertise in manual proteomic sample preparation and/ or sample preparation automation is a strong asset,
- Strong wet lab skills with multi-year experience in high quality, reproducible sample preparation for downstream analytics,
- Expertise in proteomics, bioanalytics, and bioinformatics is a strong asset,
- Intermediate ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.), and Adobe/ PDF file formats
- Knowledge of Biosafety guidelines and procedures,
- Critical thinker with strong troubleshooting skills and able to develop methods and adapt published techniques,
- Able to work under minimal supervision, as well as within a team,
- Committed to high standards of service to clients,
- Excellent communication skills in French and English (spoken and written).
Additional information
Status : Temporary Full-Time (35-hour workweek) - MATERNITY LEAVE REPLACEMENT
Pay Scale: $40,531.40 - $60,824.40 Commensurate with education & work experience.
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie

- 6 days of paid sick leave per year, which includes a maximum of 3 personal day,
