Job description

Job Description
  • Provide healthy, positive home-based supports for children and youth.
  • Build supportive and professional relationships with youth.
  • Teach age-appropriate life skills such as communication, emotional well-being, problem-solving, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, etc.
  • Assist youth in developing and achieving personal goals, encouraging their interests in music, sports, art, reading, etc.
  • Ensure basic needs are met.
  • Perform daily household tasks, including cleaning, laundry, or assisting youth with these tasks.
  • Drive children/youth to and from school, medical appointments, recreational activities, and community resources.
  • Encourage youth to build self-worth, emotional competence, physical development, and cultural participation.

Applicants must provide a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter prior to employment, as required by province and sector, communicated by the Program Hiring Team.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications
  • 2+ years' experience in Child and Youth Work, in a group home or community setting.
  • Experience supporting or teaching Indigenous children/youth is an asset.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Work, human services, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, etc.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract and 3 years of driving history.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations.
  • First Aid / CPR certification.
  • Training in Suicide Intervention, Self-Harm Awareness, Crisis Intervention, and Medication Administration.
  • Indigenous Awareness and Cultural Diversity training, with an understanding of Indigenous cultural practices and traditions.
  • Adherence to Spirit of Our Youth Homes Inc. policies and the Alberta Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Accreditation Council Standards for Child and Youth Group Living.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
