The Project Biologist will support and independently execute various field and office components of small- and large-scale environmental projects in the forestry, utility, oil and gas, government, and private sectors. Environmental projects will involve natural resource management, with a focus on vegetation, ecosystem mapping, fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat, and species at risk. The Project Biologist will also periodically provide support on projects related to construction environmental monitoring, water quality management, and erosion and sediment control, as well as independently prepare technical documents to support project planning and regulatory requirements. The Project Biologist will work collaboratively with Project Leads and Environmental Specialists to support technical components of project delivery.
Key Job Functions & Responsibilities
Key duties include but are not limited to the following :
- Hold technical responsibility and ownership for data management, technical quality, and execution of project field programs.
- Supervise and be accountable for environmental surveys (e.g., breeding birds, sensitive raptors, terrestrial wildlife, aquatics, and vegetation), including survey kick-offs, data entry coordination, and guidance to junior staff.
- Provide technical support on projects interacting with biophysical environments.
- Complete QA/QC reviews of data collection and field staff checks.
- Develop training materials and provide growth opportunities for junior biologists.
- Provide peer review and mentorship to junior biologists, and contribute to proposals with estimates and technical content.
- Support Project Leads and clients with expertise in surveys, data collection, analysis, and regulatory impacts.
- Assist in project and task management to ensure deliverables and maintain client satisfaction.
- Prepare, coordinate, and review technical reports and permit applications for regulatory compliance.
- Support budget tracking and management as directed.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams independently.
- Lead ecological studies on fisheries, water quality, wildlife, vegetation, and other environmental data.
- Collect, input, organize, and analyze data; design and execute field activities like baseline assessments and surveys across various environmental fields.
- Act as Lead Environmental Monitor on construction projects involving natural resource management.
- Communicate proactively about potential delays or budget issues and develop solutions with management involvement.

Job Requirements
Requirements for the role of Project Biologist include :
- A science degree or diploma from a recognized university.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental consulting in small to medium professional services.
- Experience in independently executing environmental fieldwork.
- Experience in obtaining regulatory approvals related to environmental projects.
- Experience in preparing and delivering technical reports independently.
- Experience leading technical project components within environmental consulting.
- Registration with BC College of Applied Biology or another recognized credential (e.g., ASPB, Eco Canada, ABCFP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Proficiency in GIS (ArcPro and/or QGIS).
