Job description

Located in the heart of the Niagara region – just minutes from one of the world’s most well-known tourism destinations – Niagara College offers more than 130 innovative programs between our campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Since opening its doors in 1967, Niagara College has grown to become a leader in education and training and one of the most enterprising colleges in Canada.

Applications are invited for the position of head coach, women’s basketball in the Athletics and Student Engagement division, located at the Welland Campus. The salary range is $29,000 to $35,000 / annually, for a 20-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.

Reporting to the Director, Athletics & Student Engagement, the successful candidate will work within the women’s basketball program. The Niagara College Knights compete in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and is a member of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Develop and implement an annual training and competition program to maximize all opportunities for success in the OCAA / CCAA.
  • Support and monitor student-athletes’ academic progress.
  • Establish a strong basketball recruiting network.
  • Provide appropriate physical and mental training programs.
  • Integrate community programming with the men’s basketball program.
  • Design and run grassroots clinics and camps.
  • Support and act in accordance with the strategic direction and initiatives as they relate to student-athlete support, general promotions, budget management, and appropriate administrative leading of the program in accordance with Niagara College, OCAA, and CCAA policies and procedures.

Qualifications :

  • Degree or diploma in a similar field of study.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant coaching experience, preferably at the head coach level.
  • Train to Compete” Certification (or equivalent) or on the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) pathway.
  • Previous coaching experience in the OCAA / CCAA, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) / USPORT and / or elite club level is considered an asset.

Note : Credentials obtained outside of Canada require an evaluation to determine the Canadian educational equivalence. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position as a condition of employment.
