Job Description

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Laboratory, the Registered Technologist will be responsible for processing lab specimens, testing, updating patient records, documentation of procedures and test results, and maintenance and stocking of the work area. Additional duties may include participating in quality control, equipment maintenance, and adhering to safety protocols.

Requirements

  • CMLTO registered Medical Laboratory Technologist - practicing designation in good standing
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform all laboratory functions in a busy acute care hospital, including Hematology, Immunohematology, and Chemistry
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work effectively under stress
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills; ability to collaborate with patients, families, staff, and community members
  • Understanding of and commitment to SHN's safety programs and practices, including staff, patient, and environmental safety; participation in ongoing education in these areas
  • Customer service orientation when interacting with patients, colleagues, volunteers, and the community
  • Exposure to Lean principles, with an understanding of methodologies and tools, and a commitment to applying these to improve healthcare delivery
  • Alignment with SHN’s Code of Conduct and dedication to fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe work environment in compliance with health and safety legislation
  • Use of protective equipment and hazard reporting
  • Ethical conduct and appreciation for diversity within the patient and staff populations
  • Excellent work performance and attendance
