Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The senior occupational therapist, working with the Manager of Occupational Therapy and Senior OT at Charlton services, assists in the effective coordination and operation of the occupational therapy department at West 5th campus. This role involves promoting and adhering to professional practice standards, maintaining clinical expertise in mental health practice, and working autonomously and collaboratively across disciplines to achieve goals related to quality, risk management, education, and research. The senior therapist also supports the integration of St. Joseph's vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities into occupational therapy practices, aiming to develop high-quality services and a strong mental health occupational therapy team.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- 5 years of recent, relevant experience in mental health settings
- Experience or participation in leadership development
- Experience managing hours in a unionized environment
- Knowledge of mental health care models and trauma-informed care
- Current BCLS/HCP certification
- Gentle Persuasive Approach training preferred
- Leadership experience in departmental or corporate projects
- Basic computer skills
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to design and deliver staff education programs preferred
- LEAN or similar Quality Framework training is an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES
Some responsibilities include:
- Assisting with daily operations of the occupational therapy department at West 5th
- Managing scheduling and coverage within the discipline
- Leading goal attainment for departmental objectives
- Facilitating and scheduling quality and practice meetings
- Supporting staff education and professional development
- Promoting team cohesion and evidence-based practices
- Coordinating orientation and supervision for new staff
- Evaluating learner placements
- Ensuring adherence to professional standards and college requirements
- Managing risk activities such as infection control and equipment maintenance
- Liaising with internal and external departments and committees
- Performing other duties as assigned by the manager.
