SHEQ Officer

Location: Saskatoon

Our offering covers rock bolts, resin, cable bolts, and in- house manufacturing capabilities. Sandvik is a global, high-tech engineering group with approximately 44,000 employees and sales in about 150 countries with a focus on enhancing customer productivity, profitability and sustainability offering solutions for manufacturing, mining, and infrastructure industries.

The SHEQ Officer will be responsible for leading continuous improvement, development, implementation, participation all health and safety related functions for the facility. This position will be located out of our Saskatoon facility, you will be required to travel occasionally to our Sturgeon Falls and North Bay location.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Environmental (E)

  • Maintain, review, revise and continuously improve environmental documentation including work instructions, plans and policies
  • Conduct or assist with environmental training sessions
  • Investigate and document all environmental incidents including near miss and significant hazards
  • Document and complete all required environmental records; track statistics for trends and suggest and/or lead improvements
  • Organize/Conduct and document routine as well as mandatory environmental training (e.g. spills)

Health and Safety (HS)

  • Maintain, review, revise and continuously improve health and safety documentation including work instructions, safety plans and policies
  • Lead risk assessments and implement TBRA’s
  • Build and verify Safe operating procedures
  • Lead and support investigations and document all safety incidents including near miss and significant hazards
  • Document and complete all required health and safety records; track statistics for trends and suggest and/or lead improvements
  • Oversee and review legally required documents (e.g. SDS)
  • Organize/audit Training both external and internal
  • Schedule, conduct and document inspections; follow up on corrective actions
  • Participate with the preparation of the management review
  • Schedule Health and Safety Meetings, document and maintain agendas, minutes and actions
  • Participate in the Return to Work (RTW) program
  • Work closely with other coordinator(s) on Internal/External audit prep and corrective actions using MOC process
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions
  • Other duties as assigned

Quality (Q)

  • Maintain, review, revise and continuously improve quality documentation including testing instructions, records, work instructions and policies
  • Conduct or assist with quality training sessions
  • Monitor and report on all quality activities, processes and procedures
  • Track quality statistics for trends and suggest and/or lead improvements
  • Ensure compliance of manufactured products and purchased materials to DSI and CSA requirements
  • Track non conformances and opportunities for improvements
  • Perform regular inspections and reviews to ensure employees adhere to quality policies
  • Schedule, conduct and document internal audits; follow up on corrective actions
  • Participate in the preparation of external audits for quality related program(s)
  • Participate with the preparation of the management review
  • Ensure maintenance and calibration of test equipment
  • Ensure all ISO standards are adhered to
  • Work closely with other departments on Internal/External audit prep and corrective actions using MOC process
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the area of Health and Safety
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in environment/sustainability
  • CRSP or CSP designation or equivalent would be considered an asset
  • Internal Auditor certification is considered an asset
  • Experience in the relevant ISO programs pertaining to HSEQ
  • Knowledge of workplace requirements, legislation and compliance for construction/industrial in Ontario.
  • Experience in investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems, or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation and the law
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and follow through on commitments and deadlines
  • Ability to comfortably interact with team members and leaders at all levels
