Job summary

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology is seeking two temporary salaried instructors for the Carpentry Apprenticeship. In this role, you will create a supportive learning environment, prepare lesson plans, and evaluate student progress. The Opportunity

We're hiring 2 temporary salaried instructors for the Carpentry Apprenticeship!

The Wood Trades Team delivers training for students in Carpenter Apprenticeship. This is made up of 4 years of Jobsite training and study. The technical training portions are eight weeks in length, running 5 times per year, and take place at SAIT Main Campus.

As an instructor, you will create a supportive and innovative learning environment, utilizing existing curriculum resources and various instructional techniques to promote learning and personal development. In addition to creating teaching and learning plans, course maps, and assessments, you will provide ongoing support and guidance to learners, evaluate student progress and achievement, and participate in promotional activities such as SAIT’s Open House.


The Role
  • Prepare and present schedules, lesson plans, lectures, assignments, evaluations, and learning activities
  • Know, understand, apply and relate to students the essential facts, concepts, procedures and principles in areas of expertise designated by the curriculum, using a variety of instructional techniques, which promote learning and personal development
  • Prepare cabinetmaking shop materials for learners
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement
  • Maintain and develop relationships with academic colleagues
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
Qualifications & Experience
  • Have a minimum Alberta Journeyperson Certificate and Red Seal in Carpentry
  • Ideally, have a minimum of five years’ experience as a Carpentry Journeyperson in a variety of commercial and/or residential environments
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Be committed to ethical behaviour
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and presentation software
  • Prior teaching or training experience in adult education is an asset
