We Invite Applications For The Temporary Position Of

  • 1.0 FTE Grades 4-9 District Inclusion Support Teacher - Social Emotional Learning and Behavioural Support

The SEL and Behaviour District Inclusion Support Teacher supports students in grades 4-9 with severe behavioural and/or mental health challenges in both school and alternative environments. The teacher is a member of the District Inclusion Support Team and works collaboratively with both district and school-based teams.

The successful applicant will have a key role in establishing the specific learning program for students.

The SEL District Inclusion Support Teacher Responsibilities Include

  • School, district, and community agency consultation and collaboration for students requiring Tier 3 supports.
  • Supporting students through a trauma-informed lens to ensure successful transitions to the most appropriate learning environment for the individual student.
  • Case management and IEP development.

Preferred Qualifications Include

  • Master's Degree in Inclusive Education, Counselling, or a related concentration.
  • Completed coursework to meet the needs of exceptional learners in behaviour disorders and behaviour management strategies, curriculum adaptation, differentiated instruction, and inclusive teaching practices.

The Preferred Candidate Will Demonstrate

  • 3-5 years of related experience in an educational setting.
  • Training and experience with children presenting severe behavioural challenges and an understanding of trauma's impact on brain development.
  • Supported by coursework and experience, knowledge of special needs arising from ASD, FASD, LD, ADHD, Tourette's, OCD, ODD, Anxiety, Depression, and other neurodiversities.
  • Ability to design and implement multi-tiered systems of behavioural support.
  • Knowledge of elementary and middle school curricula and ability to support teachers in curriculum adaptation and modification.
  • Ability to conduct functional assessments of student needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including Behaviour Resource staff, SBTs, community partners, and parents.
  • Ability to review and evaluate program, student, and community goals.
  • Skill in writing and reviewing competency-based IEPs, Proactive Behaviour Support plans, and Integration Support plans.
  • Commitment to ongoing communication with support teams, external agencies, and families to facilitate student success.
