Description

The Operational Technologies Security Architect (OTSA) will join the Enterprise Architecture team within Technology Planning & Performance. OTSA will deliver strategic directions and tactical decisions on key solutions and technologies for monitoring and controlling physical devices, which are increasingly used to automate electric power system operations. These foundational technologies (Industrial Control Systems) are essential for delivering critical business services across the organization.

The OTSA is a specialist in processes and tools that overlap between information and operational technologies, guiding the delivery of pragmatic, cohesive, and efficient solutions. The OTSA is familiar with and can advise on cybersecurity aspects of digital operating systems and their integration with IT systems. This role partners with key stakeholders to develop OT security strategies, roadmaps, plans, reference architectures, solution blueprints, and designs to guide technology investments and ensure quality solutions. The OTSA also leads and mentors solution architects, SMEs, and delivery teams to ensure effective execution of initiatives aligned with standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  1. Deliver architecture visions, roadmaps, reference architectures, and standards for OT cybersecurity supporting OT & IT planning, delivery, and operations.
  2. Act independently as program or project architect for high-risk, complex initiatives, ensuring standardization and consistency of architecture elements.
  3. Identify risks and opportunities to maximize ROI on OT cybersecurity investments through optimized architectures and technology choices.
  4. Liaise with stakeholders across functions to gather, evaluate, and align solution requirements and constraints.
  5. Assess and recommend solutions related to physical devices, firmware, software, networks, cybersecurity, and back-office IT & OT systems.
  6. Collaborate with planning, project, and operations teams to reconcile solutions with business challenges.
  7. Provide leadership and mentorship to internal resources and partners.
  8. Work collaboratively within tight timelines to deliver results.
  9. Maintain professionalism, foster teamwork, and build productive relationships.
  10. Stay updated on technology standards and best practices.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 8+ years of relevant experience with a strong understanding of operational technologies, cybersecurity frameworks, processes, and systems used in electric utilities, with proven experience in enterprise or solution architecture.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Professional cybersecurity certifications e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA.
  • Deep knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks, architecture, and designs.
  • In-depth knowledge of operational and information technologies and systems, including at least two of the following:
  • Physical devices, IoT sensors, firmware, and software used in electric utilities for industrial control and data acquisition (e.g., PLC, RTU, DCS, SCADA, MES).
  • Networking, telecommunications, and cybersecurity technologies, including non-IP protocols, LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, LTE, SIP, LDAP, Firewalls, IdAM, IDS/IPS, NAC, SIEM, and OT asset management tools.
  • Grid management solutions such as EMS, ADMS, OMS, SCADA, AMI, GIS, and EAM.
  • Emerging technologies like OT-IT Convergence, Smart Grid, IIoT, Edge Computing, and Advanced Analytics.
  • Knowledge of compliance and cybersecurity standards, including NERC CIP and NIST.
  • Business acumen combined with industry standards for IT-OT architecture and service management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to assess solutions for business outcomes, resolve issues, and work independently to meet deadlines.
