Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Administration, the AVP Information Technology Services (ITS) and CIO is responsible for setting the vision, leadership, coordination, and advocacy for the effective application of information technologies. They make decisions that have significant, broad implications for the management and operations of the entire University. The AVP ITS and CIO work closely with the Executive and Senior leadership to ensure ITS is planning, implementing, and maintaining enterprise information systems to support academic research, student services, and business operations.
They lead strategy development, build partnerships, and coordinate a holistic ITS enterprise for the University. They are responsible for the overall success of the University’s ITS strategies, including investments in infrastructure and project implementation. The AVP ITS and CIO provides University-wide ITS strategic planning and assessments to monitor and ensure effective enterprise information systems and services, including, but not limited to, network, infrastructure, security, project prioritization and management, implementation, shared information system interfaces, voice and data systems, disaster and data recovery, hardware/software acquisition, web services, and system design. They lead governance for technology investment decisions and solution development/deployment, recommend policies, develop procedures to meet policy objectives, and provide guidance and leadership for technology adoption.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated strategic leadership experience in a large IT department within a complex environment, preferably at a post-secondary institution. They are future-focused, agile, technologically adept, experienced in analyzing and implementing technology trends and industry best practices, and respond quickly to organizational needs. They are a people-first leader with a strong focus on team building, motivation, employee engagement, and succession planning. An advanced academic degree(s) and credentials in fields such as computer and information science, educational technologies, or business are required.
