Junior FireSmart Coordinator


TEMPORARY GOVERNMENT FUNDED

The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) invites qualified applicants to apply for the temporary part-time government funded position of Junior FireSmart Coordinator. This position will be situated in Williams Lake, BC, a thriving community with all major amenities. The Regional District is known for its agreeable climate and a vast array of outdoor recreational opportunities. The Junior FireSmart program has been developed and is grant funded through the Province of BC; the position’s guidelines and requirements are determined through the province. This temporary position will run for 8 weeks starting June 23, 2025, and concluding August 15, 2025. A copy of the job description is attached for reference.

Position Summary: Reporting to the FireSmart Coordinator, the Junior FireSmart Coordinator position is designed for individuals (ages 16-30) interested in learning about wildfire mitigation, preparedness and community outreach and resilience. The Junior FireSmart Coordinator will assist the FireSmart Coordinator in a wide range of activities including engaging with community members, social media content creation, supporting outreach events, and participating in wildfire mitigation activities.

To be considered for this position applicants must meet the Province of BC Summer Job grant requirements listed below:

Education, Experience, and Qualifications Required:

  • Enthusiastic about wildfire prevention and mitigation and community safety.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to engage with the public.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and take direction from mentors.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Docs, social media platforms).
  • Completion of FireSmart 101 online course (or willingness to complete).
  • Completion of Wildfire Risk Reduction online course (or willingness to complete).
  • Completion of Local FireSmart Representative Training Course (or willingness to complete).
  • Must maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.


Wage: This grant funded temporary part-time position has a rate of pay of $23.00 per hour.

Work Site Location: The Cariboo Regional Districts Williams Lake Office located at, Suite D, 180 3rd Avenue North, Williams Lake, BC. Travel within the Regional District will be required; must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Hours of Work: This temporary part-time grant funded position will work 3-4 days per week, a minimum of 20 hours/week to a maximum of 30 hours/week, the incumbent will receive an unpaid lunch period, which is dependent on the hours worked for the day. The applicant may be required to work weekends and evenings, depending on the schedule.
