Perioperative Supply Chain Specialist (Sarnia)

Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is a national, not-for-profit, shared services organization that supports hundreds of health care providers across Canada, as well as child welfare agencies and other public sector organizations. MMC provides value-driven contracting and procurement solutions for medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceutical products, local sourcing, capital (equipment, FF&E and redevelopment) and nutrition solutions. Other services include data analytics, in-hospital support, warehousing/logistics, technology, procure-to-pay, and accounts payable.

With an emerging focus on sustainability and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, MMC is actively supporting the creation of a resilient value chain that incorporates environmental, social and governance best practices. Based in Burlington, ON, the organization also has offices in Toronto, Thunder Bay, Kingston, Brantford, London and Chatham, and a distribution centre in Oakville.

Please note this role will be onsite in Sarnia 5 days a week.

We are currently recruiting for a full-time Perioperative Supply Chain Specialist to support our Strategic Sourcing team.

Position Overview

Working collaboratively with the Operating Room team, Physicians, Stores, Medical Device Reprocessing Departments, and MMC Supply Chain Division, the Perioperative Supply Chain Specialist has responsibility for planning, procurement, coordination, implementation and evaluation of all supply chain processes and services within the surgical services department. Data collection, analysis and presentation of utilization data for the purposes of service improvement and efficiencies and subsequent implementation of improvements. Utilization of cost accounting principles for cost management of processes, equipment and products. Capital asset evaluation and procurement in alignment with Broader Public Sector Procurement Directives and applicable trade legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists the Strategic Sourcing Specialist in the management of Operating Room contracts, including: stakeholder engagement, facilitation of product trials and participation on evaluation committees, related to internal Mohawk Medbuy Corporation and GPO/SSO contracts.
  • Coordinates with the Strategic Sourcing Specialist on product conversions related to OR contracts; works with Data team to ensure item master file data integrity for all item changes and updates.
  • Places orders required, utilizing computerized software for the daily operation of the OR including performing duties such as receiving stock requisitions, sourcing suppliers, negotiating price, follow up on backordered products and co-coordinating delivery, RGM and loaner equipment.
  • Reviews GHX system to ensure seamless procurement and resolves discrepancies.
  • Identifies and maintains, cost containment, supply optimization and reduction initiatives in alignment with Mohawk Medbuy Corporation and hospital goals and objectives.
  • Acts as a resource to provide information to a variety of internal and external clients on OR procedures and collaborates with OR staff on problems with materials and/or services.
  • Works collaboratively with, provides guidance, and assists in-Hospital Supervisor/Lead Hand, Stores staff and BioMed Department. Liaise with Medical Device Reprocessing Department and Stores for the efficient and quality exchange of supplies/equipment to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Works collaboratively with the perioperative team and OR staff to review supply/equipment requirements for the surgical services.
  • Works collaboratively with Strategic Sourcing and Operations teams to execute job responsibilities.
  • Works with internal supply chain teams and other Perioperative Supply Chain Specialists to identify efficiencies, cost savings, and opportunities for standardization on a regional scale.
  • Uses Mohawk Medbuy Corporation ERP systems to provide accurate and timely reports.
  • Works collaboratively with the MMC Data Team to provide analysis and reports as required.
  • Supports the development of business case analysis as required.
  • Assists where required, in maintaining the surgical information system regarding preference card updates.
  • Provides cost benefit analysis for all new supplies/equipment and communicates strategy for evaluation of purchase.
  • Works collaboratively with Strategic Sourcing Specialist to assist with product/equipment trials and establish selection criteria for the introduction of new supplies/equipment. Is an active participant on the Product Evaluation Committee.
  • Monitors and reviews critical inventory items.
  • Develops and maintains positive customer and vendor relationship.
  • Ensures procurement activities remain contract compliant.
  • Provides assistance and coverage at other Erie St. Clair member hospital sites, as necessary.
  • Perform all supply chain functions in compliance with BPS Procurement Directives and current legislation.
  • Acts as a Facilitator to assist staff and team members in achieving benchmarked standards of performance that are in alignment with Mohawk Medbuy Corporations Mission, Vision, Values, Goals and Objectives.
  • Acts as an ambassador for Mohawk Medbuy Corporation at hospital and community committees.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum three (3) year college diploma or university degree in a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum four to six (4-6) years of supply chain experience within a healthcare environment an asset.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional designation preferred.
  • Strategic Sourcing Training Program Certificate an asset
  • Central Supply Association of Ontario certificate an asset
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of supply chain management
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare requirements within the Perioperative field
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial, and monitoring processes (ex: planning, performance reporting)
  • Experience in various computer software programs (Excel, Word, MS Team, Outlook)

Travel

  • Ability to travel to Mohawk Medbuy offices if required.
  • Must be able to travel within the Erie St. Clair area when required, using a reliable vehicle
