Your Opportunity:
The Unit Clerk in the DTCOR is part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides support for a fast-paced, high-acuity 13-theater Operating Room. They maintain a high-traffic control desk, take emergency bookings, and answer telephones and intercoms. They perform various detailed clerical and computer tasks, including preparing and maintaining OR slates using Connect Care programs. Unit Clerks assist with OR staff replacement as necessary. Critical thinking and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks are essential. As the first point of contact for the OR, strong interpersonal skills are required. Given the high acuity of patients and the fast-paced environment, effective communication and organizational skills are crucial. Record keeping must be neat and accurate. Since Unit Clerks have access to confidential patient information, a strong understanding of confidentiality requirements is necessary.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will ensure the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients, and families while maintaining confidentiality. Your responsibilities include reception duties, greeting and directing visitors, maintaining patient records, transcribing physician orders, scheduling tests and treatments, and supporting administrative activities within the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, and completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent experience in an Operating Room or acute surgical care unit within the past two years; experience scheduling surgical procedures in Connect Care programs; a one-year Unit Clerk certificate with practicum from a recognized institution; a recognized course in medical terminology; excellent communication and organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a Unit Clerk in a high-acuity setting; Workforce ESP experience is an asset.
