Status: Temporary, full-time (Union position)

Wage: $29.17/hr - $33.49/hr (starting at $29.17/hr)

Hours: 35 Hours/Week

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday

Start Date: ASAP

The Opportunity:

The Entrepreneur Support Coordinator reports to the Manager of Employment Services and plays a vital role in the daily operations of the Self-Employment programs. Working closely with the Program Assistant, Self-Employment, the role involves liaising with community service providers, facilitating referrals, and supporting aspiring immigrant and BIPOC entrepreneurs with market research, business plan development, and navigating the provincial business registration system. The Coordinator also organizes the annual Entrepreneur and Small Business Fair.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee daily operations of the Self-Employment programs, ensuring facilities, equipment, and program guidelines are properly maintained and followed.
  2. Develop collaborative relationships with clients using a client-centered, outcomes-focused approach.
  3. Determine client eligibility based on program requirements; consult with the manager for exceptions or modifications.
  4. Support clients in accessing financial and business planning services; review business plans for funding readiness.
  5. Promote the Self-Employment program to community agencies, businesses, and media outlets.
  6. Provide information to help participants understand self-employment and available community resources.
  7. Facilitate training sessions and workshops at accessible locations across the Lower Mainland.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economics, Business Administration, Social Services, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in business coaching, supporting small businesses or entrepreneurs, and assisting clients in starting their own businesses.
  • Experience working directly on business matters with customers and stakeholders, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience in setting up businesses in British Columbia.
  • Community-based non-profit organization experience and cross-cultural competency.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across diverse groups, deliver group presentations, and provide one-on-one coaching.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Knowledge of the needs faced by new immigrants, including familiarity with community resources and services.
  • Understanding of self-employment regulations and business loan requirements.
  • Recent experience supporting clients facing barriers to self-employment.
  • Ability to organize and deliver workshops, develop schedules, and coordinate guest speakers, in both in-person and online settings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including cold calling and delivering presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Windows, and internet applications.
  • Fluency in a second language such as Spanish, Punjabi/Hindi, or Arabic is preferred.
