Job Position: Manager, Investment Programs & Business Performance

As the provincial destination management organization, we aim to double Alberta’s tourism sector to $25 billion in annual visitor spending by 2035. This bold vision reflects our commitment to transforming Alberta into a premier destination for visitors and investors, driving sustainable economic growth while showcasing our landscapes, cities, and cultural heritage. We are committed to co-investing with private sector organizations, regional destination management organizations, airlines, and generating strong returns for our shareholder.

Our Manager, Investment Programs & Business Performance will work closely with the Director, Tourism Investment & Commercial Partnerships, Vice President Commercial & Destination Development, and the Chief Commercial Officer. Responsibilities include managing:

  • Travel Alberta’s aviation fund to grow direct air capacity into the province through targeted investments with air carriers.
  • Travel Alberta’s investment funds to accelerate private sector investments in accommodations, experiences, transportation, and tourism communities.
  • The performance reporting of the destination development unit, including the measurement framework, scorecard, measure design, and governance.

This role leverages experience in managing large-scale grant programs with government organizations, crucial for reporting ROI and enhancing our commercial acumen.

Strategic Accountabilities:
  • Management of Industry Investment Programs (50%)
  • Evaluation of Travel Alberta’s industry and aviation investment programs, including recommendations and performance analysis (30%)
  • Monitoring and reporting of business unit performance (20%)
Project Management & Program Oversight:
  • Support operations, results reporting, governance, and insights for grant programs.
  • Develop program materials like evaluation forms, templates, and communication tools.
  • Propose strategies to optimize investment programs annually.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with public disclosures.
  • Design and implement performance management systems.
  • Report performance and insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with finance and procurement to support programs.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Oversee performance reporting and strategy for Travel Alberta’s aviation investments.
  • Coordinate with vendors to evaluate airline proposals.
  • Assist airline partners with reporting requirements.
  • Track and report investment performance to boards and stakeholders.
  • Build stakeholder relationships to advance initiatives and partnerships.
Performance & Reporting:
  • Contribute to the department’s scorecard design.
  • Collect and report quarterly, mid-year, and annual results.
  • Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in public sector grant/investment program development and reporting, managing programs over $5M.
  • Proven project leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience with grant management tools, surveys, CRMs, etc.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and visualization.
  • Ability to switch between strategic planning and execution seamlessly.
  • Strong communication skills across various modalities.
  • Excellent project management and attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of the visitor economy ecosystem.
