Position : Director of Low-Rise Construction

Venor is proud to partner with Cresco in their search for a Director of Low-Rise Construction to join their growing team in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Job Summary

As the Director of Low-Rise Construction, you will lead the operational performance of Cresco’s Low-Rise Housing team. Reporting to the Vice President of Development & Construction, this leadership role ensures homes are built on time, on budget, and to high standards of quality and safety. This is an opportunity for a strategic leader to contribute to Cresco’s legacy of excellence while driving innovation and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Accountabilities – Low-Rise Homebuilding

  • Lead and manage all functional areas of the low-rise homebuilding team.
  • Ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of homes while maintaining safety standards.
  • Implement the Cresco Experience Playbook to deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Participate in strategic and business planning.
  • Achieve results aligned with budgets and business goals.
  • Provide regular updates and advice to the Vice President.

Leadership & Management

  • Oversee staff planning, direction, and performance evaluation.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
  • Manage hiring, promotions, performance, and disciplinary actions.
  • Invest in team development and talent growth.

Construction

  • Work with Health & Safety Manager to ensure safety standards are exceeded.
  • Develop detailed project schedules to meet delivery timelines.
  • Maintain visual quality and branding standards across communities and show homes.

Budgets, Contracts & Purchasing

  • Oversee budgets, cost tracking, and purchasing protocols.
  • Maintain construction release processes for production and margins.
  • Engage with trade partners for performance and cost control.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, incorporate new materials and methods.
  • Manage profit and loss for the low-rise portfolio.
  • Develop strategies to maximize revenue and reduce costs.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have a post-secondary education in construction management, business, or related field, with at least 12 years of experience, including 7+ years in senior leadership overseeing multi-functional teams. Proven experience in low-rise residential construction, strong knowledge of industry regulations, contracts, and best practices are essential. Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are required, along with proficiency in analytics, scheduling, and homebuilding systems. Ability to balance office and on-site work, with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement, is expected.
