Job Description

The Senior Manager, Property Accounting is a dynamic, energetic, and highly motivated individual who can join the team as a leader for the Company’s Canadian multi-family rental and development accounting team. This will require an ability to work collaboratively with many constituents across the organization, including the asset management, property management, and development management teams. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of finance, operations and accounting. In addition, as a leader, you will possess a passion for your team, our company culture and a desire to grow with our organization.

The position reports directly to the Chief Accounting Officer in the corporate office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the property accounting, development accounting and accounts payable teams in relation to the Company’s Canadian portfolio.
  • Direct the monthly full cycle of accounting, including accurate and timely month-end close.
  • Oversee the internal monthly reporting process, including reviewing monthly reports to senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting process, including overseeing the funding and distribution processes.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and other reports for investor reporting purposes, including the preparation of schedules and note disclosures for Tricon’s consolidated financial statements.
  • Review analytical financial reports to assist with month-end and quarter-end variance analysis at the corporate consolidated level.
  • Direct annual audit process and resolve accounting matters with the auditors.
  • Collaborate with asset management and corporate finance on the annual budget process and quarterly reforecast process.
  • Oversee and enforce proper internal controls, including recommendations for improvement.
  • Lead process improvements to enhance the accuracy of accounting and financial reporting processes, including collaborating with IT on ERP system implementation and other system enhancements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to onboard rental or development properties, including establishing appropriate accounting and reporting processes.
  • Work with other teams and senior management on special projects, as required.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Finance, Commerce (or relevant field) and CPA certified.
  • 8+ years of firm or industry experience (Big 4 experience preferred), including 4+ years of manager and/or leadership experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of IFRS accounting and financial reporting.
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and adheres to high standards for work quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are mandatory.
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with other Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Yardi would be an asset.
  • Residential real estate experience preferred.
