VISA 3P10 Advanced Video Art

Creative, technical, and critical skills for video art production, post-production and critical evaluation. Through creative projects, critiques, screenings, readings, lectures and discussions, students will be introduced to a variety of forms and approaches to video art, emphasizing creating video art and its contextualization in contemporary art discourses.

Lectures, studio work, lab, 4 hours per week.

Schedule: Winter Term (Duration 3)

Section 2 Tuesday 13:30 – 1730

Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.07 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2024)

· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications

1. Relevant BA or equivalent is required.

2. Extensive experience in video production equipment: 4K cameras, microphones, lighting equipment, grip equipment is required.

3. In-depth knowledge of software: Adobe Premiere; Davinci, MPEG Streamclip; Audacity; iMovie is required.

4. Experience in all aspects of video art production and postproduction (single channel, multiple channel and / or installation) is required.

5. In-depth knowledge of animation techniques required.

6. The successful applicant must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and be able to meet appropriate deadlines.
