Financial Controller

Our client, a leader in the production and export of high value seafood products, is searching for a Financial Controller to join their team in Montreal.

Reporting directly to the President, the Financial Controller is responsible for all aspects of accounting, finance, inventory, and costing. This position will supervise the in-house accounting as well as those in two manufacturing locations. The Financial Controller will be involved in day-to-day operations at both a hands-on and strategic level and must ensure that financial results are reported in an accurate, timely and useful manner to the President and other users.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Set procedures and reports to be able to manage daily production in manufacturing facilities.
2. Preparation of financial statements and other financial reports. Analyze and make recommendations;
3. Prepare cash flows, financial forecasts and budgets and make recommendations to improve profitability and ensure financial stability;
4. Analyze financial performance on a monthly basis, produce the financial summaries and follow-up on any variances;
5. Review A/R and A/P on a regular basis, follow-up on any overdue accounts and verify all cheques and invoices before they are submitted to the President for approval;
6. Administration of payroll and group insurance;
7. Review, develop and maintain all processes and procedures for the finance and accounting systems and functions to ensure that accounting principles are applied correctly;
8. Preparation of tax filings, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements; jointly with the President, manage foreign exchange operations.
9. Maintain consistent reporting and positive working relations with our plants, financial partners and external auditors;
10. Implement accurate cost accounting and determine and improve project profitability;
11. Analyze inventory, produce inventory reports and pursue increase of turnover;
12. Coordinate government credits and R&D claims and follow-up as needed;
13. Responsible for matters relating to Human Resources (hiring, termination of employment, compensation, legal compliance);
14. Participate in special projects, prepare ad-hoc reports, and perform other tasks relating to his/her area of expertise.

DESIRED PROFILE:

1. CPA designation, Bilingual (English/Must- French);
2. Experience with Sage Accpac 300 is principal requirement.
3. Minimum of 8 years of experience in general accounting including personnel supervision;
4. Must have worked in food processing manufacturing with a thorough experience in Costing.
