Job Title: Pharmacy Assistant
Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the assistant processes prescription refills, handles third-party billing, interacts with stakeholders, prepares medications for review, and manages scheduling for delivery and refills. The role may also include dispensing activities, inventory management, and warehouse support.
Pay range: $19.50 - $21.50
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist in complying with legal, accreditation, and policy standards.
- Communicate with patients about medication deliveries.
- Perform prescription data entry, including tracking drug lot numbers and expiry dates.
- Help in entering prescriptions into software (Kroll) and processing them.
- Assist with processing refill medications through the prescription software.
- Coordinate with patients and insurance providers to resolve billing and claim issues.
- Support dispensing activities such as medication preparation, labeling, and documentation.
- Maintain accurate inventory, including expiry date tracking and stock rotation.
- Order, receive, and store medications and supplies per policy.
- Conduct physical inventories and cycle counts.
- Maintain pharmacy records and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
- Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, and staff meetings.
- Manage medication shipments and deliveries.
- Report adverse events according to protocol.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including patient support and clinical staff.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned, understanding the pharmacy's operational needs.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Pharmacy Assistant Certificate/Diploma preferred from an accredited institution.
- Experience in a busy community or specialty pharmacy preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational and computer skills (word processing, database, spreadsheets).
- Experience with Kroll software preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to multitask, work independently, and as part of a team.
