Description :

This course is designed for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators and professional practitioners. It examines Indigenous perspectives on trauma-informed classrooms and pedagogical contexts in urban and rural K-12 settings across Canada and more broadly across Turtle Island (North America). The course focuses on Indigenous peoples' experiences of trauma and its impacts on family, community, and children and youth in K-12 classrooms. Students will explore Indigenous practices of care that consider the complex interplay of colonialism and its implications for trauma-informed education. The curriculum addresses historical, social, and political issues, emphasizing culturally and spiritually safe care, Indigenous diversity across Turtle Island, and the ways colonial relations of power and privilege influence educational practices. This course encourages discussions on the significance of these topics in contemporary educational contexts.

Sessional dates of appointment : September 2023 to December 2023

Salary : As of September 01, 2021, the minimum stipend is $8,489.67 (including vacation pay) for a half-credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

Minimum qualifications : Candidates should possess a doctorate degree in a relevant discipline and demonstrate current mastery of the subject area. Mastery may be demonstrated through scholarly publications or other relevant expertise.

Preferred qualifications : Prior graduate teaching experience in this area is preferred.
